Indigenous rights in water in northern
Australia
NAILSMA presents its latest publication 'Indigenous Rights in Water
in Northern Australia'. This publication was delivered by Michael
O’Donnell, Barrister-at-Law and produced through NAILSMA's
collaboration with the Tropical Rivers and Coastal Knowledge
(TRaCK) research consortium.
As part of NAILSMA's role in this consortium, NAILSMA managed
Theme 6 – “ Sustainable
Enterprises”, which consisted of two
foundational projects and three case studies. A very important
aspect of this work was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of
present law and associated processes in northern Australia and its
applicability with native title and other Indigenous interests in
water.
NAILSMA hopes that its readers finds this piece of work useful to
your purposes when considering the rights of Indigenous people, not
only across the north, but across Australia, in all areas relating
to water management.
