I-Tracker Project Officer
Personal
Erica McCreedy was born near Wellington, in the North Island of
New Zealand. Erica has Maori heritage, from the tribes Ngati
Raukawa and Ngati Porou. She moved to Australia in 1987, where she
completed her school and tertiary studies. After studying Erica
travelled throughout Europe, UK, Finland and Eastern Asia,
including ‘WWOOFing’ (Willing Workers On Organic Farms)
in Spain and eventually settling in Edinburgh, Scotland, for a few
years. Erica was drawn back to Australia, and the warm tropics of
Darwin, and has been here for the last three and half years.
Professional
Erica completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Indigenous Knowledge
Systems at Charles Darwin University upon her return to Australia
after travel. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies
and Media Communications from Southern Cross University in Lismore,
NSW and is currently enrolled in a Masters of Tropical
Environmental Management with CDU. During her Post-Graduate studies
she was a volunteer Dolphin Surveyor for NRETAS and also
volunteered at Garig Gunak Barlu National Park, Cobourg Peninsula.
For the last two years Erica worked as an Environmental and GIS
Officer for a private Land Management Company, specialising in Fire
and Weed Management.
Project
Erica is a Project Development Officer for I-Tracker.
“I-Tracker”, short for Indigenous Tracker, is a project
that is helping Indigenous Land and Sea Managers to collect and
manage information about country across remote north Australia.
Utilising the renowned CyberTracker software, I-Tracker provides
Indigenous Rangers with field-tough handheld touch screen computers
that are a user-friendly, culturally appropriate way to collect
important information about natural and cultural resources.
