Unique wildlife, stunning landscapes and
vibrant communities. Explore the challenges, mysteries and beauties
of the top third of the Australian continent.
This website developed from work undertaken by the Tropical
Savannas Cooperative Research Centre, which began writing,
collecting and presenting information about Australia's savannas on
its website in 1998 — one of Australia's least understood and
perhaps most underrated regions.
In the intervening years, the CRC also played its part in
discovering more about the savannas: including its landscape and
ecology, the challenges facing its industries — particularly
those in natural resource management — and its communities,
often far-flung and under-resourced.
In 2006, the CRC, with support from the Natural Heritage Trust,
launched this website to provide an overview of northern
Australia's savannas. We also have specialist websites for NRM and
fire managers and school students. Use the Navigation Wheel above
right to access these sites.
